ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES UNDERTAKEN BY THE D.I.E.T, SAGAR. Orientation Programme in Language Teaching for Primary School Teachers of SAGAR District. Language teaching is indispensable for the all-round development of a child. The language teacher therefore plays a major role in the language development of a child. To achieve an efficiency in language teaching, a teacher should have mastery level of all the language skills .So it is very important that the D.I.E.T. takes the initiative to train the language teachers of primary schools. Based on this need, a programme was conducted to help the teachers to be equipped with the four basic skills in language teaching - listening, speaking, reading and writing. RESEARCH WORK ON THE USE OF TEACHING AIDS IN SOCIAL STUDIES IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS. Teaching Aids are one of the basic components in the teaching- learning process. An efficient teacher is always one who makes maximum utilisation of these teaching aids while executing his work inside and outside the classroom. But it is found out that most of the time teachers use only the text book and no additional or supplementary teaching aids are made use of. It is a glaring fact that even trained teachers seem to give least attention to this need. This has therefore resulted in the low achievement of students, especially those coming from rural and interior areas of the state. There might be a number of reasons that have led to the non-utilisation of aids while teaching. It could be due to non -availability of the materials or lack of creativeness on the part of the teacher. It could also be due to lack of infrastructure or management problems recto find out these causes, the research work was carried out by the D.I.E.T, SAGAR under the supervision of the Principal of the D.I.E.T. The purpose of this research is to find out the utilization of Teaching Aids in the classroom, and to make use of the cheap locally available material specifically in teaching social studies |
