District Institute of Education & Training, SAGAR, district Sagar was established in the District Headquarter SAGAR on 5th May 1997 at the same period it shifted in new building also. It became operational with the appointment of a Principal In charge. 

It was established to cater to the needs of Elementary teachers of the district for improving the quality of Elementary Education. At present the institute is organizing workshops, orientation programmes, training etc. involving school teachers, NGOs and community leaders. It is also conducting regular classes for In-service as well as Pre-service teachers. Time to time it also undertakes academic monitoring of the elementary schools in the district.

Intake capacity: 

At present the Institute has an intake capacity of 100 trainees though hostel facility is available to half of them only.

Physical infrastructure: 

At present the institute is functioning in a two storied RCC building. The building is constructed over a land which belongs to the Institute. A two storied RCC hostel building for boys is available In front of the main office building. The office building has large classrooms and chambers for the Principal and the Lecturers. It also has a well size office room.

DIET receives excellent academic support from several National as well as State level Institutions such as:-
1. National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT),New Delhi. 
2. National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) New Delhi. 
3. National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), New Delhi, Bhopal . 
4. Regional Institute of Education , Bhopal . 

DIET receives 100% financial assistance from MHRD which includes recurring expenditure, civil works and purchase of equipment. 
DIET SAGAR enjoys a classic support from the Department of Education in meeting the challenges in the way of achieving Quality Elementary Education. The DIET Faculty is rich in academic and professional resources with competence to assist Pre Service as well as In Service Teachers for qualitative classroom transaction.
